This keeps battles nice and fresh and it always keeps you on your toes as you are always second-guessing your self on how to approach each battle. While most of the battles I had took place on the field! You can also wage war on water, take part in siege battles, take over ports and much more. I really had a great time playing this (especially with a buddy who is as skilled as me) and I was impressed with how smart the AI was. The turn-based combat in the game is exactly what you would expect. Of course, you have many decisions to make as you play and keeping everyone happy is impossible, but that leads us to what we all love about these games…. This along with the political system getting an overhaul mean that you will be spending a great deal of time trying to keep people happy and keep peace.
The AI is much smarter this time around and will make far wiser decisions than it has done in the past. The diplomacy aspect of Total War: Rome 2 has been given a ton of work. Each faction has its own skill set and of course its own agenda in the world. It makes each encounter even with a smaller faction feel more personal. How Many Factions?ġ17 at last count! This game does not mess around and I think it is awesome how The Creative Assemble gave even the smaller factions from the smaller cities more personality this time around. You start out all the way back in 272 BC and go on a 300-year quest for power and prosperity. From the sun of Portugal to the cold of Scotland each place the campaign takes you to is very well designed and has an air of authenticity to it. I really liked how diverse the different areas the campaign will take you to are. It is very cinematic and features a ton of different regions for you to deal with. The campaign in Total War: Rome 2 is pretty spectacular as you would expect. So, with that in mind, the version I am looking at today is the most recent version that they put out. Many people were turned off by the game because of this, but The Creative Assembly did work their butts off to fix many of the super annoying and game-breaking issues the game had. Siege battles will occur only on settlements with walls or military buildings in an effort to lessen the amount of siege battles, and to provide alternative fighting scenarios for smaller settlements. Each province has a provincial capital with walls, unlike most regional capitals. A player can raid in both friendly and hostile territory, although raiding one’s own regions will have negative effects on public happiness. To compensate the removal of resource buildings, armies now have a raid stance, which automatically generates loot and reduces their upkeep cost. Each regional capital will have an automatic garrison, the size of which is defined by the settlement’s size and possible military buildings. Individual villages and resource buildings will be gone from the campaign map in Rome II, and instead confined into the regional capital. This means that if public happiness drops too low in a province, the most unhappy region will rebel instead of the entire province.
Construction options for a province are displayed on a single menu, while public happiness is also province based. However, the control of an entire province will allow a player to pass edicts on provincial level, edicts that provide bonuses such as increased public happiness or military production. Provinces are groupings of up to four regions, and each region within a province can be conquered separately. It is divided into 173 regions, that are grouped into 57 provinces. The campaign map for Rome II spans from Bactria (Afghanistan) to Lusitania (Portugal) and from Caledonia (Scotland) to Garamantia (in the Sahara).
